What Trim Pin Should I set on my manual trim outboard? Slow to plane and won't plane with more than 2 people.?
It's a 50 HP Johnson on a 14 foot tri-hull. With more than 2 people it won't plane, engine runs great. I had it set on the 2nd pin closest to the transom. That was exactly even with the bottom of the boat and level. Should I trim out a bit so the prop is higher towards the air?
If the boat planes easily with only two of you, and there's no issue in compression, prop, etc., then odds are it's just a lot of weight for a small motor and probably a heavy boat. Adding the hydrofoil will help, as would pushing the pin down to the last placement, but you won't see significant changes. Don't forget, when loading up on passengers, you're usually also loading up on gear. 4 people on a 14' boat for a day of fun means a relatively large cooler full of ice and refreshments, plus the towels, bags, etc. etc. etc.
