Why is it that RMAs, Registered Medical Assistants, are not paid....at least $11.50 an hour?
I have never seen a RMA in a position of authority or leadership anywhere? The is no potential growth and the Nurses really pile on the work. They usually end up drawing blood, and filing health records. There is no prestige that I can see.........why train for almost a year (5 eight hour days a week) and then your externship for almost 2 months? Been there, done that, and not going back. I'm tired........

Nurses pile on the work because for every task they give you, they have 5 more! And I'm sorry, but you can never be in a true position of authority in your job - that's not what a Medical Assistant is!
I don't mean to sound mean, but you really should have investigated it further before you went to school for it and just went with nursing instead. I understand why people do though -I see all these schools advertising medical assistant training like it's so fantastic, and you can do it faster, and you'll make great money, blah blah. But it's not really so great.
