Glass Cane

Glass Cane

A whimsical treat for the eyes, this rainbow stripe glass cane is sure to put a spring in your step and turn plenty of heads. Handmade by artist Jody Fine, who created the cane after his 90-year-old mother broke her back. When she graduated from a walker to a cane, Jody wanted to give her something with a little extra style. Fanciful and fun, like a piece of ribbon candy, this glass cane is luxuri...

how do you get used to a walking cane? with arthritis?

im 55 years old & severe arthritis in knee, & thigh, i bought a folding cane, how do you use it? sorry this is a stupid question, but do you lean on it? sometimes its hard getting on/ off toliet & bath tub, will it be good for that? im using pain patches to, absorbine jr, as i cant stand it.

Walker-type steadiers can be used in the bathroom to help you get on and off the toilet or out of the tub. A folding cane might help but you have to balance on it and you might slip.

To get used to the cane itself, you don't lean on it too hard, but you have to get used to it being there as something to relieve the pressure off of your "bad" side. It really is an extension of your body, something that will help you keep your balance, so think of it as sort of a new leg.

Folding canes are just conveniences for when you need to fold it up and put it away; I've never had any problems with mine.

The best place for canes in general is

http://www.fashionablecanes.com/

It's where I got my House M.D. cane (LOL) which I use regularly because for some reason I can't seem to find my Lucite cane (it's a tough, clear plastic cane) that I bought from them as a backup. Lucite is a bit heavier than the House cane, and I don't rec getting the House cane if you're a fan, only because the flames on the end are STICKERS (not paint...that really p'ed me off).

But there are various canes you can buy there for a reasonable price, and you can get things customized to your height as well. You should always get a properly fitting cane, otherwise it won't work/might end up hurting you more.

Good luck.

P.S. Salonpas patches work a bit if you've got minor pain anywhere. Their active ingredient is camphor. Camphor seems to work better on me than straight on menthol, because menthol can burn pretty harshly. I am also on regular low dose morphine.

Medical marijuana can only be bought from a licensed dispensary and only if you have a Med Marijuana ID card, which your doctor would have to rec you for (in California, at least). And even then you would have to know what you're getting because the different strains work differently (sativa vs. indica...you would want indica because it's more of a body high than a brain high). And if you're like me, you will need a vaporizer, because smoking it can be tough on your lungs.
