Coghlans Bug Lab Kit for Kids....

How do I take care of a lizard egg?

I got on the bus, and my friend handed me this little egg. I put it in my binder and it survived the whole school day. When I got off the bus in the evening, I went and stol some dirt from an ant pile and put it in a container. Then I Put 1 drop of water on the soil. And of course, through that whole day, it had been turned several times. What do i do to keep it alive?

Don't turn it any more. Reptile eggs sometimes orient themselves, and the baby lizard inside could drown if they are turned the wrong way. Let's hope this hasn't already happened.

The soil may need more water, it's hard to be sure. You don't want it bone dry, but you also don't want it wet enough to cause mold. Make sure it's damp.

I would find a warm place outside to leave this egg in its container. Reptile eggs need warmth. Don't put it in direct sunlight, though. If it gets cold at night where you are, you can take it inside at night, but it should be outside during the day.

If you want to see the baby lizard, then you should put some kind of screen over the top of the container. Otherwise, when it hatches, he'll get away. If you do this, also put a small dish of water in there, in case he hatches while you are away.
